It's mid-March in the Methow Valley and time to wipe the old dust from the mountain bike, and splash on a bit of new mud.
As of March 15th, the Riser Lake loop is snow-free and in pretty good shape. Look for some wet spots on the western end of the double track that forms the south edge of the loop. Also there are some low-hanging, face-slapping, branches on the singletrack that runs south from the Riser Lake parking lot.
To make a bigger route, a figure-8, you can combine Riser Lake and Lewis Butte. Typically the Lewis Butte section is ridden as a clockwise loop that circles around through the Hasse Homestead, up a steep single track to the top of Lewis Butte, then follows the ripping singletrack route from the top down to the Riser Lake paring area.
